Five Containers

I took a walk in my neighborhood. PERFECT day ... Warm & sunny, cool breeze. It's hard for me to not mourn the impending doom, of summer's end. Last winter was so hideous -- snowed in for seven days -- I'm already recording lots of HBO programs and wondering what light sources I need to improve on for the dark days ahead. My house feels so stuffy & inflexible to the changing seasons. Stuffy & totally not oriented to the environment in which it sits. No where to sit outside and enjoy the natural breezes.

Walking along the Columbia River is the best part of the neighborhood and situation in general that I find myself in. I met a couple selling their home on the water and selling off extra possessions in anticipation of moving to Arizona for the winter. After that, they're going to live on their 40 ft. boat. After that they're going to live in their 40 ft. travel trailer. Then alternate; between the 40 ft. boat and the 40 ft. trailer. Sounds like a good idea to me.

But I really need to have an art studio somewhere. A workshop, a warehouse, something. The woman had her possessions down to five containers. Only five???

I wonder what that means exactly. Would it really be possible to condense one's life down to so few items? That must have been personal items ... including clothes? Cooking & dishes? Family photos & mementos? Hobbies & special interests? Underwear, slips & pantyhose that never get worn? Hmmmm.... I'm really thinking about this one ..........

Squatting in the Garden

Last Saturday I enjoyed working outside. In the "garden" actually is incorrect. Back yard is more like it, or maybe even just "yard" ... in the back. Access to it is lousy, so I can blame that (partially), for my lack of enthusiasm on doing any ho-ho-hoeing. However, thanks to some loaner potted plants from my favorite man, the place is looking much better thankyouverymuch!

The weeding I did was much more enjoyable due to my renewed ability to squat for a while. Or a few minutes. Or maybe only a few seconds?? sheeesh ... who counts such things?? Anyway, I was quite pleased with myself for being able to do something that wasn't very easy, not so long ago. The working out is working!

MiZSnagglePuss was enjoying the weather as well. We had a mighty fun time of it ... even took me some pictures, uh-huh!

FOOD DIARY: Intro

"Write a Food Diary", she said. Oh Crap, I've done that before and it's not pretty. Expose all the little snacky bits & pieces?? Incomplete meals and massive portion sizes??? Blaaaaah. OK. Don't fight the trainer. I did sign up and pay for this fun anyway.

Like most people, I’ve got struggles with weight. Challenges with food. Issues with body image. Lack of discipline for working out. And in recent years, add menopausal & aging symptoms to the mix. wheeeee ...

Lately I've been making a big effort to lose the extra poundage and establish good exercise habits (yet again). I’m 25 out of 40 lbs. down, yahoo!!! It’s been a real struggle for me to get in the habit of exercise ... self-discipline hasn't always been my best friend.

Getting started is the hardest part! But once I see & feel some progress, working out gets very addictive. I've been able to wear some long-forgotten clothes in the closet. Feels so great to feel good for a change!

If you get a chance, I highly recommend this book: Younger Next Year by Chris Crowley & Henry S. Lodge, M.D.

It’s written by a physician and his patient about the benefits of regular exercise. I read the one for women and feel much better already. Old Age, Take a Hike ... Literally!
